Not only was Louisville one of the first Southern cities to pass an LGBTQ+ Fairness Ordinance, but we also have earned a perfect score on the Human Right Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index for seven years in a row. The national LGBTQ+ rights organization rates U.S. cities based on non-discrimination laws, municipal services, law enforcement, and leadership on LGBTQ+ equality.
And we aren’t just tooting our own horn when we say Louisville is welcoming. In 2018, Louisville became the second U.S city to receive the “Certified Welcoming City” designation from Welcoming America, a leading national research and policy nonprofit focused on immigrant support and inclusivity in civic, social, and economic life. Louisville also is home to the largest Cuban population outside of Florida, though our residents hail from all over the world, with more than 150 languages are spoken in our public schools.
