If outdoor adventure is what you’re looking for, Louisville is the place for you! Nestled on the bank of the Ohio River, Louisville offers water sports like boating, paddling, and kayaking (there are even Class IV rapids ten minutes from downtown). Just north of Louisville Metro in Indiana’s Brown County, you will find challenging mountain biking trails. And if you travel south or east from Louisville Metro, you will encounter Mammoth Cave National ParkRed River Gorge, and the scenic beauty of horse country.

With a plethora of Frederick Law Olmsted parks situated throughout the region, it’s no wonder Louisville is called the City of Parks. You can enjoy hiking in Cherokee or Seneca parks; listen to live music at the amphitheater in Iroquois park; kayak and mountain bike in the Parklands of Floyds Fork; explore the world’s largest underground bicycle park at Louisville Mega Cavern; take in the beauty of Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest, and so much more. No matter how you want to spend your time outside, Louisville has something for everyone (even a 100-mile scenic loop around the city!)

From the Yew Dell Botanical Gardens in Oldham County to the Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest in Bullitt County, to the Indiana Caverns in Harrison County, our 15-county region makes exploring the great outdoors a fun and easy thing to do.

Whether your speed is doing (biking, climbing, kayaking), exploring (hiking, caving, horseback riding), or observing (enjoying wildlife, botanical gardens, and historical markers), Kentucky is a paradise for outdoor adventure.  Mammoth Cave National Parkthe world’s longest cave system, offers you a unique opportunity to explore Kentucky’s caves and caverns. If you want a taste of what it’s like to see the world from the back of a horse, Kentucky has a number of horse parks where you can do that. There are so many outdoor adventures to be had in Kentucky, that it’s impossible to list them all! But this list offers a pretty good start.
